Etymology

'The narrow road', v. rake , cf. Hoole supra , Chester 336infra .The later name alludes to lands hereabouts which belonged to the Fraternity of St Anne, Chester, cf. St Ann's St. 337infra , Ste Annes Heyes infra , and a lake called in olde tyme St Anne 's Lake 1573 Morris, part of Flooker's Brook stream, 1 24.
