Several ancient sites exist in the parish, to which the name could refer, cairns and tumuli at grid 83–489162, 470130, 532194, standing stones at 490163, a stone circle at 529193, and encampments at 469127, 530193, besides a stone circle at Tow Top and tumulus at Low Raise (infra ).
