Dowbiggin, Doubiging 1321 YD ix(p), Dowbigging , Dowbygging 1325 Puds, 1406 YI (p), Dowbiggin 1574, 1603 FF, 1654 WillS, Dewfebyggyng , Dowfbyggyng 1379 PT (p), Dowebyggyng 1403 Pat. 'Dúfa's building', from the ON  byname Dúfa 'the dove' (or OE  dūfe 'dove' itself) and bigging. Dow - is a usual development of dūfe in YW.
