Etymology

Eckton (lost), on Ectune c. 1030 YCh 7, Ectone , Estone 1086 DB, possibly identical with Eketon 1280Ass , v. tūn 'farmstead'; the first el. is uncertain, but could be ODan  ēk 'oak', perhaps replacing an earlier OE  āc. The exact location of this place is unknown; it was in the Archbishop's manor of Otley in Gereburg wapentake (1 supra ); cf. G. E. Kirk, Thoresby xxxvii, 203.
