Etymology

Sinningsdale (lost), Sinningesdal (e ), Synningesdal (e )1200–16, c. 1320 Furn, 1246 FF, Sinhigdal 1210–30 Furn, Singengeherdale 1227 ib, Synyngesdale 1246 ib, Syniggredale 1269 ib. 'Synning's valley', from the ON  pers.n. Synning (cf. Syningthwaite iv, 248supra ), and dæl, dalr . The two spellings with -her -, -re - may represent the ON gen.sg. -ar .
