Etymology

Thickrush Brow & Thickrush Fm, Thicokroiste in Mewith 1685 PR, Thick Rash 1741 ib, 1847TA . Probably 'dense rushes or rush-bed', from þicce 2 and risc ; the spelling with rash is from NCy dial. rash (a variant of rush ) from OE  ræsc (v. EPN s.v. risc ), which may appear in other YW p.ns. though there is in some cases the possibility of the YW dial. word rash 'a narrow piece of arable land left uncultivated', cf. also Rash 258infra .
