Etymology

Bruntscar, Brind (i )sker 1346, 1350 Furn, Bruntscar 1607 PR, Brumscar 1619 ib, Brumskarr 1787 PRAdd. 'Burnt hill-side', v. brende , sker 'a scar, a rocky hill-side'. The form Brind - has the common raising of e to i before a nasal, and Brunt - is a usual later development of this.
