Etymology

Chapel Le Dale, the Chappell ith Dale 1677 PR, Chaplain Dale 1771 M, Chapel in Dale 1807 PRSk, also called Fells Chappel 1692 PR, y e Fell Chappell 1706 ib; it was a chapel of ease of Ingleton (PRIng vii). The 'dale' is the valley of the R. Greta, and the 'fells' are Ingleton Fells (supra ). v. chapel , le (the Fr def.art. introduced from such p.ns. as Chester le Street Du), dæl .
