Etymology
Estover Fm is Estiw (o )rth (e )1221ElyA , 1277Ely , 1300 Ch, 1308, 1331 Ipm, Estworth 1251ElyCouch , 1298, 1307MinAcct , 1331Bodl , Easterforth c. 1630Map , Estwith 1678FenS , Eastover 1695 SN, Easteuor 1706 Moore, Estopher Fm 1852 Harding. This is not an easy name. On the Wisbech Map of 1597 it is Eastry as opposed to Westry infra 257. It may be that our earliest forms have lost an r through distant dissimilation in Estriworth , a compound of ēasterra , 'more easterly' and worð . Cf. Eastrea infra 259.
