Etymology
Chainbridge is Chain Bridge c. 1825 O.S. Cf. the Chare 1576 Saxton, 1607 Kip, (the lake called) the Old Chair (e )1637 BedL, the Chaine called March Chaine 1680Wisb , March Chaine Bank 1714 ib., Old Chayre 1747 Kitchin. Chain is apparently a late corruption of Chare , the name of an old stream here. Cf. Chain Fm supra 226.
