Dowgate Bridge

Etymology
Dowgate Bridge (6″) is so named in 1821 (Baker). Cf. a gote called Dogarde 1368 Imb, gurgitem vocatam Dieugard 1438Sewers . A pious or facetious French name for the gote from which the bridge took its name. 'God protect' those who came near it.
