Etymology

Bullocks Town (lost) is the name of a manor mentioned in 1315 as Bollokestone (Ipm), the home of John de Bulkestone (1327 SR), and as Bullockys-towne in 1538 (SRS 19, 145). We have here either the animal-name (cf. Bulkestroude 1327 SR (p), 'bullock's marsh'), or Bullok as a ME pers. name. Cf. Bullok as a pers. name in the Sx Subsidy Rolls.
