Etymology

Limney is Lymney in 1453Ct (C.P.) and perhaps to be associated with Gilbert atte Lymene (1327, 1332 SR) of Mayfield and Wadhurst. It lies on a tributary stream of the Rother, on the borders of Mayfield parish, and Lymene was an old name for the Rother R., v. supra 7.
