Etymology

Probably 'Walca's stede,' from a lost OE  pers. name Wealca , cf. Walkingham (WRY), DB Walching (e )ha ' Walkington (ERY), DBWalchintone . Such a name might be a pet-form of an OE  name in Wealh .
