Etymology

Awbrook (6″) is possibly Apebrok (e )c. 1270 Gerv, 1296 SR (p), Appebrok 1389Ct , Awbrook 1636 SAC 19, 49. In DB we have pers. names Ape , Apius and Appe , of obscure origin, possibly alternative hypocoristic forms of Abba with unvoicing of b to p ; such a pers. name may form the first element in this name.A diminutive Ap (p )el seems to be found in Applesham supra 224. Cf. also Apedale (St), 1277 Misc Apedal .
