Etymology

Lime House and Cross (6″) is Lym 1335Ct (p), 1340 Pat, Lymecrouche 1466 SRS 29, 54, Lyme Cross 1517Ct , Lyme 1586 SRS 19, 286. The place presumably took its name from OE  līm , but the sense is not clear. There is no chalk here.
