Etymology

Bemzells Fm and Wood (both 6″) are Bembselle 1296 SR (p), woodland called Bemsell 1360 Ipm, Bemsell 1520Ct , Bemsells 1671Ct . This is probably from OE  beam and sele , 'house by (some prominent) tree,' or (ge )selle as in Buxshalls supra 340. It is of course possible that beam is here used in the sense 'beam' and that reference is made to the actual structure of the buildings.v. Breadsell infra 496.
