Historical Forms

Etymology

Glynde Reach is the sewer called Rytche , Ritche 1544FM , Glynd Ritch 1819 Turnpike Act, and is to be associated with Thomas atte Riche (1332 SR). Here we doubtless have the OE  word ric postulated by Ekwall in his RN (370), s. n. Skitterick, in the sense 'brook, ditch.' That would aptly explain the name.
