Etymology

The variant ME vowel suggests an OE  pers. name Fremma , or Fremme , a derivative of the name Fram , v. Redin 13. See also PN NRY 273, s. n. Fremington. We may possibly compare Frensham (Sr), Fermesham , Fremesham in BCS 1159, 1195 and Frimley (Sr), Fremeley , Fremesleya BCS 697, 1195. Hence 'Fremma 's open land,' v. feld . For a forms, v. Introd. xxvii.Later there was curious confusion with Frant in the first element.
