Etymology

Cansiron is Canserne 1415 (Will ), Kanserne 1486–1515 ECP 3, 117, Cannesherne 1520 SRS 19, 88, Canserne house , Carneserne fordge 1579DuLa , Cancerne 1593 SRS 33, 45. Dr Ritter suggests that this might possibly be from OE  cranes-hyrne , 'heron's corner,' with metathesis and later dissimilation and loss of r . v. cran , hyrne .
