Etymology

Hesworth Common is Hesworth meade in 1640 (SRS 14, 215), Heshworth Street in 1724 (B), and probably gave name to John and Walter de Hereswerth (1296 SR). This must be a compound of OE  worþ and a pers. name Here , a short form for one of the numerous OE  names in Here -. Cf. Herston (Do), DBHerestone , and Hardham infra 128.
