Coles Wood

Early-attested site in the Parish of East Grinstead

Historical Forms

  • Cole 1658 SAC24,225

Etymology

Coles Wood (6″) may derive from the family of John Cole (1658 SAC 24, 225), but the p.n. Coleslond (1291 AD iii) suggests that the family may have existed in the parish at a much earlier date.
