Shadwell (6″) is Schodwelle 1288Ass (p), 1340 NI (p), Shodwell 1332 SR (p), 1340 Cl, Shodewell 1438Ct , 'shallow spring,' v. sceald , wielle , the o being due to the ME  form scholde found side by side with schalde , cf. Shodwell in Harting (1350 Cl).For loss of l , cf. Shadwell (Mx, Sf).
