Pannelridge Wood is Panegregg 1296 SR (p), Pangregg 1340 NI, Panyngrigge 1366 FF (p), Peninge Redge 1405AsM , Pannyngrydge 1543, 1546 Pens. This name is difficult. Possibly we may have OE  pending , pænding , later penig , pænig , 'penny,' the ridge having been so named from some rent or due paid by it.It might also contain the same pers. name as Penhurst supra 476.The two places are close together.
