Etymology
Rake Manor (6″) is Rakes Myll t. Ed 6 SAC xviii, Rakemyll t. Ed 6Rental , and was the home of Richard de Rake (1332 SR).Cf. Raikes Fm infra 261. There is little in the topography to suggest a local origin for this name, so possibly the Richard de Rake of the Subsidy Roll came from Raikes Fm in the east of the county or from Rake in Sussex.
