Etymology

Tulse Hill is so named in 1823 (Br), and takes its name from the family of Tulse , first found in the parish in 1656 (FF ). This was the site of the earlier manor of Budele 1202, 1231, Buddeleg (h )1251 FF, 1279Ass , Bodele , Budele c. 1300St Thomas , Buddele 1367 Cl, Bodley 1535 VE, Bodyleys 1777Recov . This is probably 'Budda 's leah,' cf. Budleigh (PN D 582).
