Etymology

Levehurst (lost) is Lefhirst 1286 Cl, 1290 Ch, Leshurst (sic)1337 FF, Lenehurst (sic)1354 FF, Lenehirst 1453 Pat, Levehirst 1453 ECP, Levehurst in Lambeth t. Hy 8MinAcct , Levehurst (e )1544 LP, 1600FF , 1795Recov . Probably 'Lēofa 's wooded hill,' v. hyrst . The place (VCH iv, 58) was in the southern part of the old parish near Norwood (infra 50) and the hyrst was no doubt a part of that wood.
