Etymology

'Place where lambs were either embarked or landed,' v. hyð .Cf. Rotherhithe infra 28. North and South Lambeth are still distinct districts. Lambeth Marsh is now drained and built over. There is still a street 'Lower Marsh' near Waterloo station. Cf. Wild Marsh in Tottenham (Mx), Wildemers late 12th BM.
