Etymology

The discovery of numerous forms containing an r makes the explanation of Tuesley as a “leah sacred to the god Tiw ” (cf. Mawer, Problems 61) difficult, but it should be noted that the introduction of inorganic r in 13th century p.n. forms is not without parallels. Overstone (Nth) first shows such a form in 1285 (PN Nth 134) and Silverstone (ib. 43) has them from 1253 onwards.
