Etymology

Ottering Wood (lost) is Oteringwode 1222Rental , Oteryngewod (e )1288, 1346 ib., Oteringewod (e )1412MinAcct , Oteringhewod (e )1301Rental , Otteringwood (e )1613, 1683MinAcct . 'Wood of the people of Otor ,' v. ing . Otor is probably the OE  otor , 'otter,' used as a personal name. Cf. Otterden (K), DBOtringedene .The wood adjoined, and was part of the present Farnham Park (ex inf Rev. H. R. Huband).
