Etymology

Pointers is Pontintone 675 (13th) BCS 39, 933 (13th) BCS 697, Pontyngton 13th Chertsey (p), Puntinton 1219 P (p), 1221 FF (p), Pontiton 1235Ass (p), Poyntyngton in Coveham 1296Deed , Poyntington 1316 Seld xlv(p), Pontynton 1332 SR (p), Poyntonslond 1460Deed , Poynton (s )1548LRMB , Poyntonfeld t. Ed 6Rental , Pointers 1749 B, Panton Green 1765 R, Pointers Green 1789 L and C. The first element is probably a pers. name Punt , found in Powtenstone (W), earlier Puntes stan (BCS 757), and on record at Andover c. 1106 (Dugd vii, 992). Cf. also Pounsley (PN Sx 393) and Poyntington (Do). Hence 'Punt 's farm,' v. ingtun .
