Etymology

Cold Norton is Northton 1312Ass (p), Coldenorton 1440 AD iv, Coldnorton 1548LRMB . 'North farm,' v. tun . Why north is uncertain. It is south of Pointers and south-west of Cobham, the two oldest places in the parish. Cf. Cold Norton (Ess), Colde Norton 1350 Ipm.
