Market End is Burgende 1316 FA, Buriende 1440 Blo, Market End 1542 Blo, Merket end 1609–10Survey , v. burh , ende . In 1440 Blo (ii, 13) there is a grant of dues from a new market below the town.Blomfield comments “Around this new market place resident trades people soon erected their dwelling…This part of the village now changed its name from 'Bury' to 'Market End'.”
