Etymology

Crockwell. Cf. Crocwelle furlung c. 1225Bodl , Crocwellforlonge , Crocwelleforlong c. 1325 Kennett, Grokwelle 1432–8Rental , Crockwell 1538MinAcct , 1648 Blo. Second element w(i)elle: the first is apparently OE  crocc, 'pot, vessel.' The compound might be used of a stream or spring near which fragments of pottery had been found.
