Etymology
Grettenham (lost), Grettenham 1540MinAcct , c. 1560Surv , 1586Comm , 1596FF , 1766GR 779, Gretenham 1585 ib. This place has not been located but it formed part of the manor of Coates (32supra ) in 1540MinAcct 1240, 1766GR D 779. The first el. may well be Gretton (foll.) in view of the Grett - spellings. The second el. is probably OE hamm 'water-meadow'.
