Quarr (SY 989797), quarrera Petri de Clauille , Quar (r )era (p)1268Ass , Quareriam 1272 (1372) ChrP , (La ) Quar (r )(e ) 1287, 1299, a1427 all Hutch3 et freq to c. 1586 Tres, (la ) Quar (r )ere 1288Ass , 1366 Pat, 1401 Cl (p), atte Quare 1360 Cl, Pat (p), Quarry Fm 1811 OS, Quarr Fm 1838TA (Langton Mat.), 'the quarry', v. quarrere ; there are traces here of ancient stone quarries now disused (Hutch3 1695); for the family of (de ) Clavel who held this place for several centuries (e.g. Will ' de Clauyle de la Quarere 1288Ass ), cf. Clavel Tower in Kimmeridge par. infra . A quarry here may be referred to in unam accram super quareriam marmoris c. 1190Midd (R.J.S.), held by the priory of Wilkswood in Langton Mat. supra .
