(1372) ChrP , Estington 1259, 1285 FF, Estyn (g )ton 1285 (1372), 1306 (1372)ChrP , Istone 1291 Tax, Eston 1466, 1481Weld 1, 1482 Hutch3, 1484 IpmR, Eastington c. 1586 Tres, 1811 OS, '(land) east in the village', v. ēast , in , tūn , though the OE adverbial form () ēastan used elliptically to give a similar meaning '(land) east of the village' is also possible. The alternative forms Istone , Eston without medial -in (g )-, -yn (g )- may simply contain the adj. ēast and mean 'east farm', cf. Weston Fm infra and discussion in Gl 154s.n. Eastington.
