Broadmayne par. infra and cf. foll.; the affixes -(H )ospital (is ), -Hospitell and Frarene -, Frer (yn )e -, etc. allude to the preceptory and lands of the Knights Hospitallers here from the 13th cent. (VCHDo 290–2), v. frere , -ena (the -ene -, -yne - spellings represent a ME  wk. gen.pl. -ene ). A chapel here (site marked 6″) is mentioned in 1516 Hutch3, 1533 ib. There was a water mill here in 1338 Hutch3, cf. Mill Mead 1843TA , v. myln , mǣd .
