Etymology

'Walter's farm (on R. Piddle)', from the ME (< OG ) pers.n. Walter and tūn, v. RNs.infra , Affpuddle par. supra ; no reference to the early owner called Walter has been found. Hutch1 1 489 mentions a former chapel here; it is referred to as capelle de Waltereston n.d. (1372) ChrP , ecclesie de Walterston 1412MinAcct . For Hr Waterston, cf. Lovard supra .
