Etymology

Ram's Hill (Fm) (ST 813170), claus ' voc ' Rameshill 16Glyn , Rams Hill 1811 OS, Long Ramshill , Lr Ramshill 1838TA , possibly to be identified with on Rumanhelle 958 (15) ShaftR (S 656) in the Anglo-Saxon bounds of Thorton infra , apparently 'roomy or spacious hill', v. rūm (wk.obl. -an ), hyll , cf. the f.n. Ramsom in the adjacent par. of Manston supra .
