Etymology

'Fortified farmstead', or 'farmstead near a fortification', v. burh-tūn, cf. Bourton par. supra . Assche , Naysshe , atte Nasshe , etc, refer to Nash Court infra . The name now survives only as a st.n., mentioned as Burton St . 1870 Hutch3, cf. Bo 'tons Lane 1548 Ct.
