Etymology

King's Mill (Bridge) (ST 766171), Kingesmulun 13 GlastR (p), Kingesmolne 1268Ass (p), Kyngesmulle e14GlastE (p) (mention of molendinum aquaticum ), Kingsmill [Bridge]1791 Boswell, Kines Mill 1811 OS, Kings Bridge 1839TAMap , Kings [Mill], Kingsmill Bridge 1870 Hutch3, v. cyning , myln 'mill'. In 1086 DB some lands (and a mill) in Sturminster Newton, the entry for which probably included this part of Marnhull, were held of the king, v. VCHDo 373. The property was a grant from the Crown in the reign of Eliz 1 (Roscoe 120).
