Etymology

Wysselay (lost), 'Wysselay and Wynberncholth , chase of Wysselay '1199 CartAnt, 1199 (1236) Ch, 1267 (1309) ib, Wsselay 1199 (1233) ib, Wisceley 1267 ib, from wisc 'marshy meadow' and lēah 'clearing' (a common p.n., v. PN Brk 100). The name always occurs as a 'chase' in association with Wynberncholth , etc as in the first form, and is therefore likely to have been somewhere in the old forest of Holt, v. par. name supra .
