Etymology

Walwyns Fm (6″), earlier Bungehurst, is Boneshers 1248, 1257 Ch, Boneshersse 1274 Ipm, Boneshers 1296 SR (p), Boneshershs 1327 SR (p), Bonesherche 1332 SR (p), Walwyns al. Bonsersshe al. Bungehurst 1577 SRS 19, 78. The second element is ersc , the first is probably the OE  pers. name Byni . The name Waleweyn is found in 1296 (SR) in the neighbouring parish of Heathfield.
