Etymology

Isenhurst is Hysenherst 1279Ass (p), Isenherst 1296 SR (p), 1320 Ch, Isenhurst 1316 FA, 1541 LP. As we are in an old iron- smelting district this may be 'iron-wood' from OE  īsen and hyrst . Cf. Isnage (Ha), isenhyrst in BCS 1307.
