Etymology

Dr Ritter suggests that this may be from OE  Herericingtun , i.e. Hereric's farm, v. ingtun . The same pers. name appears in Herchingeland in Folkington (1215 FF). The contracted form Herric actually occurs as the name of a moneyer under Aethelstan.
