Topleigh is Topely 1249Ass , Topley 1501Ct . There is evidence for an OE pers. name Topp in Topsham (D), Toppesham BCS 721 (also toppes oran ) and Toppa would be the corresponding weak name, hence 'Toppa's clearing,' v. leah .
