Etymology
Sheetland (6″) is so spelt in 1754 (SAC 39, 188). It was probably the land of John atte Shute or at Shete (1420, 1421Ct ).This is the word sciete, 'corner or nook of land,' discussed under Cockshoot (PN Wo 180–1).
