Gosdensheath

Early-attested site in the Parish of Ambersham

Etymology

Gosdensheath. The name is ultimately local and not manorial for there was a Gosedenne here in 1249 (Ass ). The name means 'geese's denn ' or 'geese's valley,' v. gos , denn and denu . In 1425 (Ct ) we have mention of a Robert Goseden who probably took his name from Goseden and ultimately gave name to the heath.
