Etymology
Welton Prebends The manor of Welton was granted by William the Conqueror in prebendo as part of that king's endowment of Lincoln Cathedral, this being subsequently confirmed by William II and Henry I, v. RA i, 2–11, 25–6. The manor was divided into five prebends in the medieval period, cf. Owen, Church and Society in Medieval Lincolnshire 42.
